Kaine – Exciting November

November has certainly been a very busy month filled with rehearsals for ‘New Dances’, our first big show at Juilliard, and our first performance in the schools prestigious ‘Peter jay Sharp Theatre’. Having the opportunity to work with Bryan Arias on this piece has been such an amazing experience. His process has given me such an insight into the professional world as he has worked with such amazing people during his career.

The same can be said for all of our regular classes too. I am constantly in awe of the faculty here at Juilliard, their words, advice, help and guidance is helping me become a better dancer, day in and day out.

This week I got to spend my first ever Thanksgiving in New York with some of my classmates who are stayed in the dorms over the short break. We decided to brave the cold and go to watch the famous ‘Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade’, something that none of us had ever seen live! The key to getting a good spot at the parade is arriving early! With that being said, we set our first alarm for 5am, wrapped up warm, and made our way to find a good spot on the route. It was certainly a fun experience, we got to see stars such as Jimmy Fallon, Flo Rida, Andrea Day and so many more!

Having the 5 days of for Thanksgiving was definitely needed. We’ve been so busy that we haven’t really had a chance to explore much of the city. Whether that was waiting 30 minutes in line to get some cookie dough (Which was sooo good!) or getting lost in central park, having some free time was so valuable. I honestly don’t know when the realisation of living in New York City will actually sink in, I’m still waiting. But in the meantime, I can only be grateful for the life I’m currently living and soak up every ounce of experience that I am gaining here.

Alongside the holiday, it also happened to be another very exciting time of the year… MY 19th BIRTHDAY! This was my first time spending a birthday away from my family which was slightly strange but they made me feel very at home with a big package full of all the English chocolate that I’ve been missing! (They know me too well). My birthday is on black Friday so we decided to make a trip to 5th avenue to find some birthday bargains!

I’m looking forward to getting back to it all tomorrow, I feel well rested and ready to go!
